Mission:City’s Tutoring and Mentoring Program is a free, after-school program serving Brightmoor and surrounding area youth in Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Meets every Monday and Tuesday 5 PM to 6:30 PM
One thing we all can agree upon no matter what political, economic, or social group that we belong to is that our children need a strong educational background.
The community of Brightmoor has been identified as an educational desert. There are close to 7000 children in Brightmoor with only two schools located within our community.
We, at Mission:City, believe that it is not only the school’s responsibility to educate our children. We hold the opinion that people in the community, businesses, and parents all need to work together toward the common goal of educating our children.
So we collaborate with various organizations such as Tutoring T.O.T.S. and churches to offer tutoring in Reading, Mathematics, and Computer Science to supplement and support our school system. Another unique challenge to our community is the near elimination of music and art programs in our school. We offer free music & art classes, teaching our young people piano, violin, guitar, cello, and drums along with creative writing art /crafts. These programs allow our children to express themselves artistically through a viable outlet of creativity.
Through mentoring and tutoring programs, we can foster an environment that nurtures and challenges our students and community to take responsibility and ownership of their own education and lives.
